Police pooch prefers dog toys to fighting crime

A police pooch from Northumbria has had to be fired from the force because it favours playing with dog toys over fighting crime and catching criminals.

Vegas, a German Shepherd, was rejected by the Northumbria Police because they thought she was too tentative and would be too soft on criminals, reports the Daily Mail.

Dog section sergeant John Sim explained that biting does not come naturally to all dogs, explaining that this is the area where Vegas was "too tentative".

He told the news provider: "For a good bite the dogs have to get their timing right to take hold of whoever they are chasing in a determined and positive way and keep hold until instructed to let go by the handler.

"She'll make someone a lovely pet in the right environment. She is nervous around children so would need an adult-only home."

Anyone interested in providing Vegas with dog food and a new home has been advised to contact the Northumbria Police kennels.
