Pet owner wins back missing cat after court battle

The worst fear for owners is to have their feline friend wander off on their adventures one day and not return home.

This is precisely what happened to Senka Besirevi who was distraught when her cat Brandy disappeared seven years ago from her home in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

Having given up hope after a long and fruitless search, she was over the moon when a vet contacted her in March last year to say that her microchipped moggy had been found.

The teaching assistant was left with no choice but to employ a solicitor though after her adopted family refused to return her cat.

This resulted in a £1,000 court battle at Birmingham County Court which ran for nine months.

Ms Besirevic was finally granted custody in January.

"I'm just happy to have her back. She's still the same cat, although she doesn’t go out as much now," she said.
