Keep your dog on a leash this winter, says expert

Pet owners have been advised to keep their dog on a leash this winter to prevent any accidents.

A spokesperson for The Harrisburg Humane Society in Pennsylvania claimed that dogs are at risk of getting lost and falling through frozen lakes if they are allowed to run free while outside.

The spokesperson wrote on the official ABC 27 website: "Do not let your dog off the leash in the snow or ice. Dogs can lose their scent and become lost if they are not kept on a leash."

The group added that owners should adjust the amount of dog food they offer to their animals as they need more energy during the cold weather.

However, some dogs are less energetic than others and will therefore require less food to ensure they do not gain weight, the spokesperson stated.

Moreover, dog's coats should be kept long to ensure that they keep warm.
