Owners seem to spend more time spoiling their animal with dog toys and treats than paying their partner attention.

According to a survey by UrbanPup.com, 56 per cent of owners have been accused of lavishing more attention on their dog than their other half.

The survey of 1,068 owners also revealed that 70 per cent plan to spend Valentine’s Day doing their pets’ favourite activity, such as a long walk on the beach or in the countryside.

Almost a quarter of owners said that they are planning to buy a special gift for their dog to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

K9 Magazine editor Ryan O'Meara, said: “[This survey] shows just what our pets mean to us. This may be a special day when we make an extra special effort to show our loved ones just how much they mean to us and this research shows that pets aren't excluded from our thinking.”
