Car stolen with pet dog in back

A family may be spoiling their pet with dog toys and treats after it was accidently kidnapped when two thieves stole the family car.

Ben, a short-haired German Pointer, was sitting in the back of the Skoda Octavia in South Lanarkshire, when the two men, aged 22 and 24, took the vehicle, reports the Hamilton Advertiser.

The family were more concerned with the safe return of their pet than the car and luckily, they were reunited with him the following day.

One of the thieves' mothers had found the dog in her home and got in touch with the police.

A Motherwell Police spokesperson told the news provider: "We have many techniques in tracking down stolen property including automatic number plate recognition systems for vehicles.

"This incident is of particular interest as the recovery of stolen property means the police were able to re-unite the rightful owner with their much-loved family dog."
