Pet lovers take their canine companions on car journeys

A new survey reveals more than one in three pet lovers take their dogs or cats with them on road trips.

The poll, which was carried out by, found that 39 per cent of respondents regularly take their pets with them on car journeys, with 41 per cent saying that their canine or feline companions enjoy the experience.

Pet lovers also reported that their dogs and cats enjoy listening to music during journeys, with Adele, Lady Gaga and Madonna cited as the most popular artists enjoyed by animals. 

Radio One was chosen by respondents as the top choice for in-car pet entertainment, followed closely by Radio Two and Five Live.'s Gareth Kloet said: "Road trips should be as fun for our pets as they can be for us, and keeping our pets happy in the back is also going to reduce distraction for us as drivers, making our journeys safer for us and our animals."

Animal owners embarking on road trips were urged not to allow their pets to stick their head out of the window, as this could result in animals getting hurt.
