Man picks prison over dog's death

While most people who buy pet food would do the same in a hypothetical situation, a man in Turkmenistan was actually forced to pick between a prison sentence and the death of his dog.

The dictator of the country, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, had been passing through the area where the man lived and this means the streets have to be clear of cars and people, the Independent reports.

However, the dog walker had gone into a restricted are and the police surrounded the man, pushed to the ground and taken to the local police station.

The police were then given an order "from the top" to either shoot the dog or put the man in prison for two weeks. To save his pet, the man chose to go to prison .

Mr Berdymukhamedov is known for his strong dislike for pets. In a WikiLeaks release last year, it was revealed that the President fired a top military official because a cat ran in front of his motorcade.
