How to beat pet allergies

Tuesday, 15th January 2013

January is typically one of the worst months for animal shelters as thousands of first time owners who may have received a pet for Christmas suddenly realise they are unable to care for their animals.

Some people may even discover that they are in fact allergic to their pet, prompting them to return them to re-homing centres, which is why animal charities across the country have been giving advice to new owners on how to overcome animal allergies.

Among the recommendations being made are the need to keep litter trays and animal beds away from air vents, avoid wearing woollen clothing and regularly wash pets' living areas.

Another deterrent for owners is pets with bad breath, which is why the American Dental Association is recommending people give their pets chew toys and hard food which can help remove plaque and tartar from their teeth, as well as other pet medications specifically aimed at improving breath odour.
