Friendly ferret rescued from basement

Monday, 13th August 2012

A charity is searching for the owners of a friendly ferret who fell through a metal grid on a Dumfries pavement and got trapped in a basement.

A member of the public spotted the animal, who has been called Jaxx, and contacted the Scottish SPCA. Officers were able to reach the blonde male ferret, who had fallen around three ft.

Animal Rescue Officer, Tracy Cannon, said: "Thankfully, it wasn't a very big drop and he hasn't sustained any injuries.

"Jaxx is a super friendly big boy and his owner is bound to be missing him so we really hope someone will recognise him and come forward."

Although the officers were able to bring Jaxx to safety within ten minutes, he would not have been able to climb out himself.

The charity believes that the animal escaped from home and slipped through the grid. Anyone who recognises Jaxx is being asked to contact the SSCPA's animal helpline.
