Dog wormers should be used regularly

Dog wormers should be used on a regular basis to make sure they don't pick up the nasty parasites.

Peter Purves, former Blue Peter presenter and dog expert who is closely involved with the Kennel Club told pet owners that their animals' health should be one of their top priorities otherwise they will need pet medication.

He said: "The more aware we can make people of the problems that dogs and other animals can face, the more people understand that these things are curable, preventable and that you don't have to have sick dogs - that's very important."

Every canine will need to be treated for worms at some point, for which drontal worming tablets can be used.

Whip worm, round worm and hook worm are the most common parasites seen in dogs in the UK and these can be caused by a lack of prevention, infected food and contact with infected carcasses, according to

The main symptoms of worms include weight loss, a dull coat, scooting, diarrhoea and vomiting, at which point treatment should be given after seeing a vet.
