Baylor, the adopted puppy of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, needed pet medication last week after eating rocks.
The dog fell violently ill and the incident almost proved fatal for the dog that was adopted from Winnipeg in Canada last month.
Gomez, 18, tweeted: "My baby is sick :( praying for his surgery." She also posted a picture of the poorly animal resting.
The rescue centre where Baylor was adopted from now plans to visit the couple over the next few months to check the animal is being looked after.
D'Arcy Johnston, from the rescue centre, said when the couple adopted Baylor: "They spent a lot of time with the puppies. I was told that Selena was missing the dogs that she has at home.
"I wasn't expecting her to adopt a dog while she was on tour and has a busy schedule."
He added that Baylor probably would have had a short or bad life if he had not been rescued.
