Superstar racehorse Frankel is now officially the greatest horse ever on the Flat, after a review of global rankings put him above the previous leader, Dancing Brave.
Four-year-old Frankel, who was bred and is owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah of Juddmonte Farms, rose to fame by winning all 14 of his races before retiring last year.
A "historical calibration" in the rankings system, which has been in place since 1977, resulted in Dancing Brave's rating being downgraded to 138, placing Frankel as the outright leader with 140.
Caring for a horse – whether as a racehorse or simply as a pet – can be an expensive and time-consuming commitment, yet one that is often highly rewarding and fulfilling for owners.
Anyone thinking of buying a horse should bear in mind the costs involved, with supplies of hay and suitable food regularly needing topping up, while the amount of time spent grooming the animal and mucking out the stable should also be considered.
Worming tablets are another essential item for horse owners, and we would recommend anyone interested in owning a horse to consult their vet for advice.
