Surrey Police warn owners after spate of dog thefts

People in Surrey who buy dog food and toys for a pet should take extra caution with their animals as the police have issued a warning following a spate of dog thefts.

Surrey Police have urged owners to be on guard as three dogs have been stolen from Windlesham, near Lightwater, over the course of two weeks in September.

None of the three dogs - a black and white terrier Jack Russell, a grey Cairn Terrier and a brown and white male cavalier King Charles Spaniel - have been found as of yet.

Inspector James Norbury said: "We are advising owners to be alert and extra vigilant.

"At this stage there is no evidence the disappearances were thefts or linked and we urge anyone aware of any suspicious incidents to report them."

According to the Daily Telegraph, the dog warden for Surrey Heath added that these incidents are distressing and can be devastating.

"We want people to be aware of these disappearances so they can take care and not leave their pets unattended anywhere," they are quoted as saying.
