Pooches help bring a smile to lung patient

A young woman who suffers from a rare lung condition had her spirits lifted by spending the day seeing pooches playing with dog toys and munching on dog food.

The Dogs Trust invited Katy Savage to its Merseyside branch, where she was given the opportunity to name a new stray brought in and pet the current residents.

Ms Savage attended the day with her younger sister and the pair decided to call the stray Tinkerbell.

She said: "It was a brilliantly fun day seeing all the beautiful dogs and even getting to stroke a few, we all had so much fun and the day well exceeded our expectations.

"The day meant the world to us and really cheered me up."

Eleanor Burns, supporter relations officer at Dogs Trust Merseyside, added: "The dogs enjoyed lapping up the extra cuddles, especially Tinkerbell the stray that Katy named."

She noted that Ms Savage is a remarkable woman and everyone at the centre admired her positive spirit.

Dogs Trust has 17 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin.
