National Pet Month (April 1st to May 6th) has finally arrived and pet lovers everywhere are coming up with special ways to treat their cherished cat or dog.
A Petcurean survey conducted by Vision Critical in Canada found that 45 per cent of respondents are planning traditional rewards like dog chew toys while 25 per cent are planning a special gourmet dog food or cat food meal.
A special meal is not complete without a dinner date companion and owners have listed potential contenders such as Lady and the Tramp or Toto from The Wizard of Oz.
There is also a high chance that cherished pets will have their fair share of the limelight through social media.
Fifty-one per cent of pet owners have uploaded photos of their pets to Facebook while five per cent have given them a shout out on Twitter.
More than 1,600 Canadian cat and dog owners were polled for the survey.
