Brits planning to go on holiday in the UK or abroad may want to pack some dog food in their suitcase if they are taking their pooches with them.
According to Sam Guiry, editor of Pet Gazette, which is a magazine dedicated to the pet industry, more Brits are taking their dogs on holiday rather than leaving them in a kennel.
She said: "There's no reason you can't take a pet away and figures suggest that more pet owners are going on holiday with their animals, both in the UK and abroad.
"Dogs probably make the easiest travelling companions and hotels and B&Bs are recognising this growing trend and offering pet-friendly accommodation."
She advised pet owners to get their dog checked by a vet to make sure the animal is fit to travel, especially overseas.
While on holiday, pet owners could put on their dog's collar and lead to take their pooch for a walk in the countryside.
Research during National Pet Month found that 43 per cent of UK households have a pet, with 7.3 million dogs being kept as pets.
