Owners 'must provide their dog with the amount of exercise it requires'

Owners must be aware of how much exercise their dog will need, as different breeds require different amounts of  physical activity.

That is according to Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club communications director, who said every dog needs to be exercised every day.

"All dogs need daily exercise, and the best way to keep your dog mentally stimulated is to keep him active, through exercise," she said.

"Dogs need different amounts of exercise depending on the breed, and you should always be able to offer a dog his recommended daily exercise."

Ms Kisko also mentioned that training development can help to keep your pet stimulated, suggesting activities such as agility and heelwork to music.

She also stressed the importance of socialisation, as regular contact with other people and dogs will keep your pet socially active.

The Kennel Club was founded in 1873 and is the largest organisation in the UK dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs.
