Owner of starved Boxer given 3-year ban

Wednesday, 16th November 2011

A man who did not feed a Boxer puppy dog food has been banned from owning dogs for three years.

The Scottish SPCA found the one-year-old dog, Buster, after a member of the public complained about the animal.

Mark Neil, 22, from Perth, was also fined £500 for not caring for the animal properly.

Chief inspector Brian Cowing said: "Poor Buster was severely emaciated when we found him. He weighed just 17kg, when a healthy dog of his age and breed should be 24.5kg.

"His spine, ribs and hips were clearly visible and it was evident he had not been fed adequately for some time."

Mr Cowing added that it is lucky the SSPCA was alerted to Buster's situation so they were able to rescue him and provide him with the dog food and care he needed.

Buster has been rehomed since he was rescued on March 9th this year.
