If you often find yourself panting uncontrollably after a work-out and think you could do with getting into shape then you might want to think about sharing your exercise regime with your dog.
The success story of Tricia Montgomery, who lost 130 pounds after embarking on a fitness programme with her pet basset hound Louie - who also managed to shed 22 per cent of his body weight - is sure to provide inspiration to many other overweight dog owners.
Now Ms Montgomery has even opened her own gym called K9 Fit Club, where members are encouraged to bring their dogs along to help keep them motivated, the Daily Mail reports.
Cindy Rodkin, one of the gym's members, insists "it's definitely the energy of the dog that keeps you going", so if you often find it hard to stick to an exercise regime then this could be the answer.
While it's important to make sure your pet gets a proper run-around every day in order to stay in shape, it's also essential to keep an eye on their diet, only using the healthiest brands of dog food.
