Mum and pups dognapped from West Midlands

A family have been left distraught after their pedigree bitch and her nine pups were stolen from their home.

Owner Maria Smallman explained that she is particularly concerned because the puppies are not yet eating dog food and are still feeding from their mother.

In total, the dognapped Dogue de Bordeauxs are worth £10,000. The dogs were taken from an unlocked shed in the back garden.

Ms Smallman told the news provider: "We’re absolutely devastated. They have taken the mother knowing the puppies are still feeding off her."

Last month, the BBC reported that animal charity Dog Lost - which reunites lost animals with their owners - revealed the number of cases it deals with every week has doubled since last year to reach 150 per week.

Jane Hayes, the founder of the charity, explained that this may be due to the recession as owners "will pay anything" to get their pooch back.
