Husky being trained to overcome his fear of walking

Tuesday, 17th July 2012

A Husky who has a fear of walks and stairs is currently looking for a new home with a loving new family.

Nando, who is thought to be between three and five years old, was found as a stray in London and was taken to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Whenever he is taken for a walk on a lead, he lies down. If confronted with stairs, he also lies at the top to avoid walking down them.

Hannah O’Gorman, rehoming and welfare assistant, said: "Traditionally Huskies are energetic working dogs who pull sleds, but we don't think that life would suit Nando, as he is always lying down!

"He's clearly not had much training in the past so we are trying to help him overcome his fears."

In the last few years, the number of Huskies being brought in to rehoming centres has increased because many owners fail to properly research the breed and find they are quite demanding as adults to look after.

Nando loves being with people and is happiest when he is getting fussed over. He is looking for a new home with a garden and an owner who understands his breed.
