Edinburgh woman given life ban after leaving dog for days

A woman from Edinburgh has been banned from owning animals for life after she left her pet for days without dog food or water while she went out partying.

Carol Buchanan was charged with causing unnecessary suffering of her cross-breed dog Bonnie.

The dog was left for at least two days tied to the top of a cupboard door, which restricted its movement to just six inches in any direction. It also meant the dog could not lie down.

Neighbours were alerted to the problem when they heard howling and they called the Scottish SCPA.

Senior Inspector Stuart Murray said: "We are delighted that Buchanan has received a life ban on keeping animals as she is clearly unfit to provide any animal with the care and attention it needs.

"Bonnie was emaciated when we rescued her and there was no food or water left in her reach. To leave an animal tied up in such a way that it can't even lie down for several days is horrific."

The SPCA also recently rescued two kittens that had been tied up in plastic bags and left to die in Bellshill. The charity is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
