A charity is appealing after it took in a dog who appears to have recently given birth in Aberdeenshire.
The Black Labrador cross was taken to the Scottish SPCA’s Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre after being found by a member of the public.
She has been named Doris by staff and the charity is now seeking out anyone with information about her, as if she has given birth the puppies may be at risk.
John Carle, chief inspector at the charity, said: "Doris is still quite swollen with enlarged teats which are producing discharge so it's possible she has recently been nursing puppies, although she could be experiencing a false pregnancy.
"At this stage it is unclear how she came to be alone on a remote country road."
He added that Doris may have strayed from her home but she might also have been abandoned.
Anyone who recognises Doris is being asked to contact the SSPCA on 03000 999 999.
