Charity develops app that allows users to care for dogs

Thursday, 17th March 2011

Users of a new app developed by a dog rehoming charity will be able to feed pooches dog food and take them on a walk.

The Dogs Trust, based at Wickhamford, near Evesham, has developed iMutt, an app for the iPod and iPhone.

People who download the app will take on the role of one of the trust's carers and will be responsible for getting dogs ready to be rehomed.

They will be required to feed the dogs and take them on walks, taking them to the vet and getting them micro-chipped. Games last roughly a week.

Jacqui O'Beirne, of Dogs Trust, said: "Although fun, we hope iMutt will help to spread the serious message of responsible dog ownership.

"iMutt will also give the public a chance to understand what goes on behind the scenes at a Rehoming Centre and the work involved in caring for an abandoned dog and helping him find a new home."

The app is free to download but provides information on how to donate to the charity.
