Town dresses as cats for charity

Thursday, 12th July 2012

Over 200 people in a south Wales town took to the street dressed as cats in order to raise money for Cats Protection.

Cats Protection in Bridgend held the event to try to break the Guinness Word Record for the largest number of people gathered together dressed as cats.

Liberal Democrap member of the Welsh Assembly, Peter Black, took part in the event. He said: "It's been a really great day which has raised a lot of awareness and funds to help unwanted cats in the Bridgend area. 211 participants is a really good number."

Outfits on display included Sylvester the Cat, Hello Kitty and Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.

Sue Dobbs, organiser and manager of the Cats Protection Bridgend Adoption Centre, added that there was a fantastic response from the community.

Over £2,000 was raised at the event  and the centre plans to hold the event again in 2014, when it hopes to break the actual world record, which requires over 800 people to take part.
