The minister's cat is a... Twitter star

Monday, 25th March 2013

The popular Victorian parlour game 'The minister's cat' has now been brought into the 21st century after chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne tweeted a picture of his pet cat sitting in the famous red Budget briefcase.

After joining Twitter on Wednesday (March 20th), Mr Osborne's first act as a member of the social network was to post a photograph of his pet moggie helping him to sort out the nation's economy, sparking a wave of comments, hashtags and retweets about the cat.

Amassing just under 40,000 followers in his first few days, the Chancellor has launched his pet to national fame.

Exactly how much influence the feline had over the recent Budget is as yet unclear, with no announcement made on pet food prices or scratch post duties, although fat cats across the country will no doubt be keeping a close eye on their finances this year.
