Rescue centre asks for dog food donations

Cat and dog food is being requested by the Scottish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to help a rescue centre provide for its feline and canine residents.

The Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre has specifically requested tinned dog and cat food.

Elaine Floyd, manager of the rescue centre, said: "Our kennels and catteries are full so we're going through a lot of food. While we do buy in food for the animals, we also rely on donations."

She explained that local businesses can also donate cat and dog food via collection bins.

The Scottish SPCA runs a Sponsor a Space programme whereby supporters of the charity can sponsor a space at one of its shelters and provide food and care for an animal for a year.

Sponsors' money will also go towards any necessary medication or treatment by a vet over the course of the 12 months.
