A rabbit was left at the doors of a dog rescue centre in Evesham, surprising staff who normally only have dog food to feed abandoned animals.
Chris Slight, manger of Dogs Trust Evesham, said that they were expecting a puppy or small dog to come out of the carrier that was left at their gates.
He said: "We have no idea why someone would dump their rabbit at our doors - as the name of the charity suggests, we only look after dogs!
"We would urge people not to abandon their pets in this way as it is extremely stressful for the animal ... your vet will be able to provide you with a list of appropriate rehoming charities to call."
Mr Slight noted that it is important charities meet with owners that are giving up their pets so they can learn as much as they can about what type of home the pet would best suit.
The rabbit, named Monty, has been taken to the Cheltenham Animal Shelter and will be available for rehoming soon.
