Provide a 'combination' of wet and dry pet food

UK consumers should provide their animal with a combination of wet and dry pet food, according to an expert.

Olivia Pires, store manager for Kriser's For Your Pet's All-Natural Life in Valencia, California, expressed her belief that dogs should be given a mix to improve their health.

She told the Signal website: "Dry food is most convenient, but it's also the most cooked. Even if it's the highest quality, you'll want to add some wet or raw food."

Ms Pires added that it is essential to give cats wet food as they need to keep hydrated to avoid certain health conditions such as kidney disease.

"Generally, more protein and less carbs are good for cats. Cats are obligate carnivores, so their diet needs to be mostly meat," she told the news provider.

Moreover, owners should regularly rotate their pet food products as animals on a varied diet are less likely to develop allergies and also gain the nutritional benefits of different foods.
