It’s the time of year when ghouls, ghosts and witches are back in fashion, and with them the black cat is also due some much-needed attention.
October 25th is National Black Cat Day, and Cats Protection is raising awareness of the wonderful pets these felines make. The charity even has a black cat download pack on its website here to inspire and inform cat lovers.
As the organisation points out, black cats often lose out to more colourful varieties of feline among potential adopters, having to wait one week longer on average to be rehomed than other cats.
“Although it’s lovely to see these cats finding their forever homes, it’s sad to see black cats left waiting in the wings. They make up about 23 per cent of all the cats in Cats Protection’s care,” revealed Danielle Draper, manager at Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre in Sussex.
The charity has enlisted the talents of model Lucy Pinder to support the campaign.
“Black cats make just as good pets as the more colourful moggies and often have particularly striking and noble looks, so I’d recommend adopting a black cat to anyone thinking of getting a cat,” she said.
