Model Lucy Pinder and actress Carley Stenson have been helping out at Cats Protection's North London Adoption Centre to mark the charity's Volunteers Week 2012.
The celebrities helped feed cat food to the animals living there, groomed them and cleaned out the pens.
Pinder, who has four cats of her own, said that she was very happy to support Cats Protection and hopes more people will do their bit to help because it is very rewarding.
Stenson added: "It’s upsetting to know that so many cats and kittens are abandoned every year; this makes the work of Cats Protection so important. But they can’t do it without volunteers - so if you can spare some time, please get involved!"
Around 8,700 people volunteer at Cats Protection every year. Roles can include fostering cats, book keeping, public relations, home visiting and fundraising.
Guy Chadwick, development manager for adoption centres in the south and east, said that volunteering is fun and rewarding, and that people can gain a great deal of satisfaction helping out.
