Love cats are stealing our hearts

The bond between humans and pets has always been strong, but a recent study has shed new light on just how much we love our cats, with one in ten people claiming they would rather cuddle their feline friend than snuggle up to their partner.

The Whiskas Big Cat, Little Cat Report also revealed that 95 per cent of cat owners consider their pet to be a member of the family, with more than half of the 1,000 respondents in the survey claiming they regularly confide in their cat.

Many pet owners believe they are able to communicate with their pet on a non-verbal level and this is mirrored in the responses, with 72 per cent claiming their cat is able to "understand them", while four in ten people also believe their animal pays them special attention when they are unwell.

Whether or not animals really are able to understand their owners is yet to be established, although the best way to stay on your pet's good side is to keep them well fed with specially formulated cat food.
