Kitten rescued after being abandoned in box

Tuesday, 10th July 2012

A three month old kitten was found abandoned in a cardboard box in Fife on Thursday evening (July 5th).

The black and white kitten, who has been named Carlos, was found in good condition and was taken to the Angus, Fife and Tayside Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

Steven Grey, senior inspector for the Scottish SPCA, said: "Little Carlos is slightly nervous but is in good overall condition.

"It's extremely sad but we've seen a spate of kittens and cats being abandoned recently and this is completely unacceptable.

"As well as being a criminal offence, abandoning any animal is very irresponsible."

He added that whoever dumped Carlos would not have known that the person who found him would help.

Abandoning an animal is a criminal offence and those found guilty face being banned from keeping pets for a fixed period or for life.

Mr Grey said that the person who found Carlos did not see anything, but the area he was discovered in is built up, so they are hoping someone will have seen something.
