Cats Protection is looking to raise money to help care for more unwanted animals with cat food and bedding by launching its Olympics 'Gold Challenge'.

The charity is working in partnership with the British Olympic Association and is looking for participants to take part in Olympic sports.

Natasha Hodges, Cats Protection’s challenge events administrator, said: "You can take part if you’re looking for something relatively easy or want to do something particularly adventurous.

"Not only will you keep fit and have a great time being a part of the Olympic celebrations, but your efforts will enable us to improve the lives of many more unwanted cats and kittens across the UK."

Volunteers can take part in running, walking, cycling, swimming, horse riding, rowing, sailing, windsurfing or canoeing/kayaking. Individuals or teams are asked to pick a distance of 20.12km, 201.2km or 2012km and complete it by December 31st.

Registration for the Gold Challenge is now open and participants are encouraged to complete the challenge before the Olympic Games start on July 27th.
