A cat was rescued by being tempted with some cat food after it got stuck on a motorway sign platform 50ft above the busy road.
The cat was seen at Briton Ferry on the M4 and it is thought that the animal could have been stranded there for up to 24 hours.
Local scaffolder Hugh Norville aided in the rescue operation by calling in a friend who had a crane.
An RSPCA spokesperson said that there seemed to be no way to rescue the cat other than if the animal jumped back the way it came.
They said: "Of course heavy traffic during the day may have put her off.
"While the police executed a rolling roadblock, Mr Norville was then able to mount the cherrypicker and rescue the cat from the platform using some food as enticement."
The spokesperson added that this lucky cat certainly used one of its nine lives in the ordeal.
