Black cat's intuition helps saves owner's life on daily basis

Wednesday, 28th November 2012

Far from being unlucky, one black cat in Scotland has been credited with saving her owners life on countless occasions.

Perla, a three-year-old female moggy, has developed a knack of knowing when her teenage owner Maria is about to suffer a heart seizure.

When a seizure is imminent, the Scotsman reports, the beloved family pet first raises the alarm and then sits with Maria, comforting her until help arrives.

According to Perla's local vet, the cat is nothing short of "wonderful", though how she developed her unique intuition remains something of a mystery.

"We don’t often get the chance to meet such clever cats," Dr Andrew Hogg said, adding that he hopes Perla will "continue to be an inseparable companion" for Maria for many years to come.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail has run a story featuring a chocolate Labrador dog who has been trained to help her disabled owner with a wide range of household tasks, including filling the dishwasher and picking up the post.
