It is important to feel a cat good quality and balanced pet food as this will help to improve the animal’s overall health and behaviour.
That is according to Beth Skillings, clinical veterinary officer at Cat's Protection, who said that it is important to check that a cat’s skin and eyes are healthy, as this is a good indicator of general wellbeing.
She said: "Feed your cat a good quality balanced diet and take them to the vet regularly.
"Groom your cat regularly, especially if you have a long-haired cat or an older cat with arthritis which may not be able to groom themselves so easily."
Ms Skillings added that owners should also make sure a cat has a private place to hide within the house. If there is more than one cat in a house, they should be fed in separate places, she said.
Cat's Protection has over 250 volunteer-run branches and helps over 230,000 cats and kittens every year.
