Ann Widdecombe helped two cats find a new home where they have plenty of pet toys and cat food.

The politician named the cats Anton and Craig, after Strictly Come Dancing Stars Craig Revel-Horwood and Anton du Beke, at Battersea’s Brands Hatch centre.

She was there meeting some of the animals before Christmas and, a month later, Craig and Anton were rehomed by Rebecca and Chris Cobb from Greenwich.

Ms Cobb said: "We both like Strictly and thought Ann was really entertaining on the show. When the staff at Battersea Brands Hatch told us how Craig and Anton got their names we thought it was great, and we feel really lucky to have them."

Ms Widdecombe added that she was "delighted" that Craig and Anton have a new home and that anyone considering getting a pet should visit Battersea.

The 64-year-old appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2010 when she partnered with Anton du Beke. She was voted off after a public vote was combined with the judges score after over nine weeks in the competition.
