Question:
My Basset has a weepy sore patch in the folds of skin in the throat region and is continually scratching. Please can you recommend an antiseptic cream or would a violet spray such as Auromicine be of use? Thanks

Answer:
The best thing for this is probably something like Hibiscrub. It is an antiseptic wash, which is very helpful for getting rid of the discharge which comes from skin like this, as well as killing off the bacteria and yeasts which tend to overgrow here.

You should moisten the skin with water then place some Hibiscrub onto it and gently massage the skin as you would with a shampoo. You should be able to form a small amount of lather. Allow this to soak into the skin for at least 5 minutes, then rinse off gently with plenty of luke-warm water and dab dry gently afterwards.

You can repeat this up to twice daily if needed. If the area remains itchy and he scratches at it a lot, then you will need to see your vet. Otherwise, it should heal well. If any doubts, check with your vet.

You can find Hibiscrub on the website here.
