While there are more than 200 dog breeds recognised in the UK, just ten different varieties dominate the homes of Britain’s dog lovers.
Those who are looking to be a bit more adventurous with their pets should, therefore, visit London this November for the Disocver Dogs event, which will showcase the more weird and wonderful dogs available.
Border Terriers, Golden Retrieverss, Labrador Retreivers and Pugs may be fantastic, beautiful and fun pooches to own, but why not consider a Russian Black Terrier, Sloughi, Schipperke, Hovawart or Cesky Terrier? You may fall in love with one of them.
Discover Dogs will have hundreds of different breeds on show and thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event, which takes place at Earls Court on November 9th and 10th.
Last year’s show saw comedian Jimmy Carr walk through its doors and he quickly fell for an English Toy Terrier, a dog that despite being native to Britain is at risk of becoming extinct.
He is now the proud owner of his very own English Toy Terrier called Ollie, and it’s the perfect dog for him because it needs just 30 minutes of exercise a day, which makes it perfect for his busy schedule.
"The top ten dog breeds are all wonderful breeds, but it is about time we used our imagination and looked at the other fantastic dog breeds in the UK," said Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary.
"Too many people choose a dog because they like the look of it, or perhaps their friends or a celebrity has the breed. Discover Dogs helps and encourages people to look further, find out about why certain dog breeds are or are not suitable for the individual’s lifestyle and gives people the tools to make informed choices that will lead to a happy relationship."
