55 Yum!

...we all know cats are very fussy eaters: I had to change my furry friends' food and I was a little worried about their reaction to a new taste. Well....with Ziwi you sure won't go wrong, I have a very elderly friend and a younger one, they both agree Ziwi wet food is just YUMMIE!

55 Expensive but great quality

After my cat was diagnosed with pancreatitis and is unable to digest chicken, this seems to be the only wet cat food in the universe that has single protein source venison. Was really stressed she wouldn't like it but thankfully it gets wolfed down. It doesn't stink like wet cat food usually does, it's meaty, textured pate. It's clearly excellent quality. I just wish it wasn't so expensive! Also cannot work out why the industry doesn't cater for cats with chicken and fish intolerance, it's ridiculous.

55 Good Honest Food

Great single protein food, my picky girl eats it well, although the beef is preferred. It's pricey, but it's worth it if you have a cat with allergies as there is nothing else snuck into it, it is what it says on the tin.

55 Absolutely great quality

My cats love this natural food. Good health starts within the gut. One of my cats has had an awful skin allergy. After steroids & antibiotics to help clear her sores & keeping her off fish she seems to be itch & sore free. Chicken also seems to have a bad reaction to her skin too. So all fish & chicken is off the menu.

55 ZiwiPeak tinned venison for severe IBS food allergy
Verified Purchase

By on 4 December 2019

After 13years of suffering with IBS causing vomiting and runny stools due to a food allergy, this is the first product which agrees with her. She is now totally normal and I no longer have to clean a very messy litter box anything from 6 to 8 times a day. She is now happy and putting on weight and actually enjoys her food. I feed her one 85g 3 times a day. It is very costly but it is the only food on the market which agrees with her. I have in the past tried every type of food on the market including prescription food.

Carageenan????

jenny

Have done some recent research on Ziwipeak products. Very impressed high on meat, low on carbs, sugars, salts and artificial flavourings and colourings.
Though I have noticed Viovet that the summary ingredients that you display under your Ziwipeak wet food tins have still got CARAGEENAN in them. I read that Ziwipeak had taken Carageenan out of their ingredients as it was not a good product and replaced it with Agar Agar. Before buying regular Ziwipeak wet food tins from you Viovet I would like to be (100Per Cent ) rest assured that your Ziwipeak wet food tins have NO CARAGEENAN in them. Many Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Jenny,

I contacted Ziwipeak directly about this and this was their response:

We removed the Carrageenan in November 2014 and replaced it with a natural gelling agent Agar Agar, which is derived from natural seaweed. However, we have removed Agar Agar from our NEW updated canned recipes.

Because cats are known to be very particular regarding not only the taste and scent of their food, but also the texture and consistency, we conducted feeding trials as part of our research into improving our canned recipes. The consensus was that most cat owners (and their cats) seem to prefer a loaf-like texture. Our extensive research indicated that the healthiest way to achieve this is by adding a small amount of chickpea to our canned recipes as a binding agent.

Please note that, on a Dry Matter Basis, our NEW canned cat recipes still consist of 93% meat, organs and New Zealand Green Mussel, along with small amounts of ground bone.

I hope this helps. I will make sure our product information is amended.

New kitten

Fi

I am about to receive my new kitten. She will be 7 weeks when I bring her home. I'm looking for a healthy, grain free and natural food for her. Im a bit concerned about the price of the ziwipeak but it has such good reviews. Would it be good to combine some of the wet food each day with some dry food as well? I've heard Orijen is great. Thank you!

  • VioVet Staff

There is a good argument for feeding cats almost completely on wet food. This should suit their metabolism better than a low-moisture diet, though it is true that many cats live for a long time on dried food alone. Personally I would include a small amount of dried food as it should help the teeth and gums, but most of the diet is better wet. The diets you mention are very good quality and should be suitable.

ZiwiPeak Venison

Maid of Kent

My 12 year old cat has been on Cystophan for idiopathic cystitis and he is fed on Royal Canin Urinary S/O.
He started excessive grooming a little while ago, which makes me think he has some problem with his skin. Fleas are not an issue. The vet has always given him a steroid injection in the past, which I am not keen to continue.
I wonder if the Venison food would be suitable for him.

  • VioVet Staff

This food should be suitable and may well help, though there are no guarantees. Over-grooming can become partly a silly habit, a sort of self-comfort activity, in a way like a person biting their nails. However a significant part of the cause will be feeling itchy. (Some very relaxed cats will not react this way to being itchy. It seems to be more common in "stressed" or "highly strung" cats, but not exclusively.) If the steroids work, then you can be pretty sure that itching is involved. Any itchy cat should receive absolutely diligent flea control. Not seeing any fleas is not enough in itself. A person with a peanut allergy can have serious trouble but not see the peanut residue which caused it. Some cats are highly allergic to fleas and a very occasional bite will set off a serious reaction, but the owner would never see the passing flea. Having said all that, a proportion of these cats will have a food allergy. Where this is the case, the best thing to do is to feed a diet which is completely free of any ingredient which was present in the former diet. Introduce the new diet gradually over a week or so, but then give it at least 4 weeks with none of the old food fed at all. This can be extremely effective in cases of dietary allergy, as long as your cat does not go to the neighbours for a snack...

CRF

3 wise cats

Our 10 year old male cat has been diagnosed with Chronic renal failure.
Also our other 10 year old male cat has a very sensitive stomach.
Would ZiwiPeak we suitable for them? maybe as a weekly treat or even twice a week.
They are currently on prescription diets.

  • VioVet Staff

I would not advise ZiwiPeak is given to the cat with renal failure. ZiwiPeak is high in protein which is probably good for most cats, but is not generally advised where there is reduced renal function. A tiny amount might be OK, but it should be very small. Ideally just feed the renal food. The other cat with sensitive digestion might well respond well to a ZiwiPeak diet, but it is difficult to give one cat and not the other such a tasty food! You might be best to stick to just the prescription diets really.
