Yumove Advance

My 13.5 year old lab has been on Yumove for about 1 year now and it has helped with his stiff joints. My vet has suggested trying Yumove Advance but I can't find it on your site (or others), is it still available?

  • Veterinary Advisor

Yumove Advance is still available but only from your vets or the manufacturers, Lintbells, directly.

Tablet strength

11th Mar 2017

Hi. At the moment I give my lab glucosamine / chondroitin / MSN supplements. They are 1500mg & 1200 mg. Is it correct me saying your tablets are only a tenth of that in strength? Reading your reviews your tablets sound great, I just want to give me dog the best. Thanks Steve

  • Veterinary Advisor

Yumove is one of the leading brands of dog joint supplements and people do report very good results for their dogs. One tablet contains 250mg of Glucosamine and 150mg of chondroitin however the number of tablets required and hence the concentration of ingredients given increases as the weight of the dog increases. So a large breed dog would be on 4 tablets a day giving a total of 1000mg glucosamine and 600mg chondroitin as green lipped mussel. There have been extensive studies done into what dosage is correct and it seems that giving a larger dose than this doesn't in fact have any added benefit for the dog although will not do any harm. There is nothing wrong with the supplements you are currently giving but you may find that Yumove is a more cost effective way of providing the best support for your dog. I would give it a try and see if you think it has good results for your lab.

Will this help my ageing Labrador??

My Labrador is 11 - she is not on anything from the vets but is getting slow and stairs are becoming a struggle. All she gets currently is one or two omega 3 capsules once a day in her food and a 'joint' chew (bakers/Asda/pedigree)once a day. Would this help with her joint stiffness. Don't want to go down the metacam route with her.

Hi Claire,

We would definitely recommend this product as it is the only joint supplement to be clinically proven to work in just 6 weeks. You can read all the 5 star reviews here:

I hope this helps.

Must they be fed whole?

20th Jan 2017

Recently purchased Yumove active for my chihuahua. She will not eat them whole. Am I okay to try breaking them up to hide in her food?

  • Veterinary Advisor

The Yumove tablets will be just as effective broken up and given in food but try to break them up into as large pieces as she will eat just to reduce any wastage when breaking.

Dosage - in one go or spread out?

hello do I give my dog the dosage all in one go or do I need to spread it out across the day .

  • Website Content Developer

Hi Stephanie,

It's up to you how you do it but it won't do your dog any harm to have all the tablets in one go. If they are having more than a couple, it might be better to spread it across the day, just so your dog doesn't refuse to eat them all.

I hope this helps.

Yumove or Yumove Active

My dog is 13 years old now, really old.
She's very small and she has problem with her joint for years as well as other small dogs. However, it's not that severe. She doesn't need any surgeries. It's just typical small dogs' health problem. Which do you think is better for her, Yumove or Yumove active?

  • Veterinary Advisor

Yumove would be the ideal supplement for your dog. Yumove Active is intended more for young growing dogs or working dogs.

Will this help my dog?

Hi, i have a 16 yr old staffie which i took to the vet today because she is struggling to stand at times an falls over alot he told me she has very bad arthritis in her elbows and recommended putting her to sleep which i disagree with as we have not even tried any meds, he then gave me a weeks supply of carprofen to see if she improves but he does not think it will help he was not very nice to be honest but anyway i wanted to know if you think yumove could help my girl with her arthritis?

  • Veterinary Advisor

The usual thing is to give a joint supplement such as Yumove alongside an anti-inflammatory painkilling drug such as Carprofen. Yumove will not help her as much as the Carprofen but is likely to be of some benefit to her if you decide to continue. I would see what she is like after being on the Carprofen for a week or two- if she is not much better after that then it is unlikely to help her. In which case you then have to consider whether her quality of life is good enough to continue but I agree that it is worth trying the medication first.

I am currently giving my chocolate Labrador bitch a joint supplement which contains yeast and as I am wary of yeast because of possible allergy side effects (scratching, which she has been suffering from until I took her off the main source of the yeast, a multivitamin tablet), I am wondering if this supplement contains yeast.

  • Veterinary Advisor

Yumove does not contain any yeast and so would be a good choice for your dog. Whilst the amount of yeast in the joint supplement she is already on is likely to contain only a very small amount yeast it seems logical to use something like yumove that doesn't contain any at all.

Double dose

My 9yr old springer spaniel has very bad arthritis in his elbows due to breaking them one at 3 yrs and one at 6 yrs I was just wondering if these would be of any use to him he is on metacam and has recently lost 8 kg which has helped with his mobility but I am willing to try anything to make his life a bit easier and also would he be better on a double dose to start with thanks

  • Veterinary Advisor

Your dog would be an ideal candidate for Yumove and he is likely to find it very helpful. It can be given safely with other medication such as metacam. It would be best to give a loading dose (double the normal dose) for 4-6 weeks before dropping down onto the maintenance dose.

At what age can a dog start taking Yumove

16th Sep 2016

We have a 2 and a half year old English Bulldog. Earlier this year he had an operation for a crucial ligament tear and was diagnosed with early signs of arthritis. Recently we have noticed that his back legs can at times be stiff especially after chasing after his ball and he can be slow to get up. At his young age is it safe to start him on Yumove ? Many thanks

  • Veterinary Advisor

It is perfectly safe to start Yumove at a young age if the dog has a history of joint problems. Some people even give it to dogs without joint problems in the hope that it will delay the onset of arthritis in later life. It sounds like Yumove would be very helpful for your dog.
