Description

Ypozane is an osaterone acetate treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia in dogs.

Ypozane is a novel, non-invasive oral treatment containing osaterone acetate for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia in dogs. It is often difficult to diagnose until the disease has progressed to a markedly increase of size of the prostate gland.

The simple, once daily, seven-day treatment has been shown to reduce prostate volume by 40% in just 14 days and show prolonged benefits for up to six months. It is available in four tablet strengths suitable for dogs weighing 3kg to 60kg and given orally, with or without food, at 0.25 to 0.5 mg/kg once daily for seven days.

  • One pack contains a complete treatment course.

It is fast-acting, showing a 40% reduction of prostate volume within two weeks, with the effects sustained for up to six months.

What dosage

Zoe Goundrill

What dosage would i give my 58kilo mastiff please

  • VioVet Staff

This is a prescription only medication so you should seek your vet for dosing advice, they will need to prescribe it to you. According to the datasheet the dose is as follows:

Administer 0.25 – 0.5 mg osaterone acetate per kilogram bodyweight, once a day, for 7 days as follows:
*No data are available for dogs less than 3 kg bodyweight.
Tablets can be given either directly into the mouth or with food. The maximum dose should not be exceeded.

The onset of clinical response to treatment is usually seen within 2 weeks. The clinical response persists for at least 5 months after treatment.
Re-evaluation by the veterinarian should take place 5 months after treatment or earlier if clinical signs recur. A decision to retreat at this or at a later time point should be based on veterinary examination taking into account the risk benefit profile of the product. If clinical response to treatment is considerably shorter than expected, a re-evaluation of the diagnosis is necessary.

This means your 58kg dog will likely need 1 x 15mg tablet daily for 7 days. However you should check this with your vet as they may want to recommend an off label doseage.

Biverkning?

Crins

Does the drug have any effect on production or quality of semen while dog is on treatment

  • VioVet Staff

The data sheet for this product states  that 'No adverse effects on semen quality have been observed.' However the effect of the drug on reproductive success is not specifically mentioned, I recommend contacting your prescribing vet so they can contact the manufacturer and advise on this.

How long does it take for the medication to work

Michael

I just wanted to know should we see a improvement 2 weeks after giving the medication or is it from the first day we give the medication and then the two weeks start

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet of this medication states the following:
The onset of clinical response to treatment is usually seen within 2
weeks. The clinical response persists for at least 5 months after
treatment.

This means you should see an improvement of some kind within 2 weeks. I recommend discussing this with your vet though as they will be aware of the entire condition they are treating.
