Description

A triple action nutritional supplement to help normal digestive function. Promax is a unique formulation of natural ingredients, each selected to perform a specific role in discouraging poor digestive health and quickly helping to aid normal intestinal function.

Ingredients

Montmorillonite, Glutamine, Mannan Oligosaccharide, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Enterococcus Faecium M74 (NCIMB 11181).

Feeding guidelines

  • Small Animal - <10kg - (9ml syringe) - 3ml once a day
  • Medium Animal - 10-25kg - (18ml syringe) - 6ml once a day
  • Large Animal - >25kg - (30ml syringe) - 10ml once a day

If your pet is vomiting, then 12 -24 hours without food will help. After that you should offer bland, easily digested food (fresh cooked chicken or white fish is best, with a little rice for dogs). Ideally the food should be offered in several small snacks through the day. The total amount of food offered should also be reduced. Plenty of fresh water should be available at all times.

Morning or evening

Linda

Is there an optimum time of day to give the dose such as first thing in the morning before feeding or sometime after the last meal of the day?

  • VioVet Staff

There is no optimum time of day for this product, it can be given whenever is most convenient for yourself. It should be given consistently at the same time of day however if possible (every 24 hours).

Puppy

Sheila Anne

Is promax suitable for a nice week puppy who has loose stools

  • VioVet Staff

This is safe to be given to puppies once they are weaned off their mother, essentially it is safe to give once your pups are able to eat solid food.

Promax and 6wk pupiies

Odette Welford

  • VioVet customer since 2014
  • From: Leicestershire, United Kingdom

Can you give promax to 6 week old pups I am weaning my litter and they have just come off lactol and on to water soaked biscuits and have the runs
I do not want them dehydrated so I was thinking I could give them some promax. They are siberian husky pups and well over 3kg

  • VioVet Staff

This is fine to be given to puppies once they are weaned off their mother, essentially it is safe to give once your pups are able to eat solid food.

Promax

Erica Diez garcia

Hello, just started with this product that the vet recommended to my kitten, is her 2 douse. How long is take to work?

  • VioVet Staff

If the cause of the diarrhoea is a dietary or a scavenging related upset then this should resolve within 3 to 5 days. If not improving or worse then you should discuss it further with your vet.

How long can you keep it open for?

Sarah42

How long after first use can you keep the tube open for?

  • VioVet Staff

If stored according to the packaging guidelines then this product can be used up until the expiry date stated on the product itself.

Are they all the same strength?

Bettina

I breed pedigree cats that are known to have sensitive tummies and I always need something on hand to settle them. Are the bigger size the same strength so I can just use 3ml per cat per day for three days and keep the rest for the next tummy upset?

  • VioVet Staff

VetPlus who manufacture Promax unfortunately do not discuss their product with online pharmacies so I cannot obtain this information for you. I recommend discussing this with them directly as they should be able to provide the answer. I highly suspect that the larger syringe sizes contain exactly the same ingredients as the smaller syringes.
We do stock our own brand version of this paste, ReguTum. I can 100% confirm that the larger syringe sizes of ReguTum are the same as the smaller syringes of ReguTum. If you keep this at the correct storage conditions as per the packaging, with the lid back on, then it will keep until the expiry date even if opened.

Promax large breed 25kg +

Moira

Would a 64kg dog still only have the amount that a 25kg dog would

  • VioVet Staff

Yes the >25kg dose is for any dog larger than this, regardless of size.

Duration of Dose

Gillian Taylor

Promax is usually very effective in settling my Havanese's sensitive tummy when she has digestive upsets. How many daily doses can I give her at any time? is it limited to three?

  • VioVet Staff

This product can be used daily in the long term if needed, It is intended for use for short term cases of diarrhoea and should not need to be given more than 5-7 days in a row, as most diarrhoeas will have resolved over this time. If the diarrhoea perists beyond 5-7 days of treatment then I would advise seeing your vet.

Can this be added to food?

Alison Campbell

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: North Lanarkshire, United Kingdom

My cat doesn't seem particularly keen on this and I've had some trouble administering straight into mouth (the plunger is sticking). Can I add it to his food instead and is he likely to notice it if I do?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes Promax can be mixed into the feed if this is easier. If mixed well he is unlikely to notice.

Side effects/ allergy

Carol wilkins

I have given my 7 month old miniature dachshund one dose of the promax. She has come out in lumps on her body and is itching and scratching, could she be allergic to something in this?

  • VioVet Staff

Allergic reactions to a probiotic such as Promax are not common. That said any dog can react in any way to any supplement or medication so it is possible. If she reacts the next time you give it then you can say with more certainty that she is allergic to the Promax. In which case I would suggest trying a different brand such as our own ReguTum.
