Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding VetGold Skin Care Cream, including answers from our team.

Dry scaly skin on paw

JM

Healed surgical wound on third digit. Dry scaly skin patch at the top. Fur is growing back. Would this help the dry and scaly patch

  • VioVet Staff

The dry scaly patch is likely a scab formed during the healing process. If your pet has been discharged and your vet has stated the wound has completely healed then you can use a cream like this, however the scab may fall off over time on it's own. It is recommended to see your vet for a post op check if possible if you are worried about the wound site.

Rodent ulcer

Lucy

Will this heal a rodent ulcer on my cats lip?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is only intended for use on skin and should not be ingested in large quantities. It is likely your cat will eat the cream if used on the lip so I don't recommend using this.
Indolent ulcers are often caused by viruses or allergies, I advise resolving the underlying cause for the indolent ulcer where possible. You can use gels that are safe for use in the mouth such as Dentisept. This will help prevent and treat any infection, the ulcer should heal on it's own if the allergic cause is resolved.

Does this help heal skin thatā€™s lost fur due to a graze ?

Tilly

Bridge of my dogs nose was scraped when he knocked into a wooden post. The fur is missing , Iā€™m concerned about uv light damage and how the fur will grow back. Is this a helpful product to use ?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is intended for helping skin heal. Hair grows in cycles and the cream is unlikely to speed this process up. Some areas that are significantly scarred may also not have any hair follicles present anymore and may never grow fur back unfortunately. You can give hair supporting supplements like EpiGlow to ensure the hair has the right nutrients to grow back though.

Sore bottom

Christine Parker

Can this cream be used on my dogs bum as he gets very sore when he has been groomed.

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Christine,

Yes, this is suitable for your dog's patches of sore skin. It will also help if there is any hair loss in the area if he has been rubbing himself.

Depending on the cause ie. brushes/clippers/shampoo, it might be worth having a chat with his groomer to see if they can do anything differently so he doesn't get irritated.

Itchy paws

Kate Gordon

Would this product be ok to put on my dogs itchy paws she get it when we are in the park and the grass is very wet the vet said it's a type of doggy dermatitis.....would this product help? Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Kate,

Yes this would probably be a suitable product for your problem, as it is designed to promote the natural healing of dry, damaged and irritated itchy skin.

I hope this helps.

Amputated Tail

VioVet Visitor

Would this cream help the healing after surgery to amputated part of my dogs tail ?

  • VioVet Staff

This cream could be applied but surgical wounds like this normally do not need this cream. If there is something which prevents normal healing, such as physical trauma to the shortened tail (as can happen) or deeper infection, then the cream might not be able to help much. If in doubt, check with your own vet.

Sun burn prevention

Tracey Lowe

My cat always seems to burn her pinna. I have applied spf50 and aloe vera gel to sooth warm ears. Would this product be useful instead of current daily routine during warm weather. My cat is tortie snd white snd both pinnas are ginger.

  • VioVet Staff

VetGold should be ideal for a case like this. You should apply the cream 2-3 times a day.

VetGold Skin Cream Safety

Denise Madigan

Could this product harm my dog if he licks it?

Many thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

There are no ingredients in the skin cream which would harm a normal healthy dog. Licking a small quantity should not cause any adverse effects, other than removing the cream from the area to which t was applied. It would be best to deter the dog from licking the cream; to allow the cream to work effectively.
