Description

TopSpec Lite Feed Balancer is designed for horses and ponies that need their weight controlled; they are usually gooddoers and may be overweight. These are the horses and ponies for whom every single calorie counts, so a well controlled feed is essential.

Lite is a ‘Non-Heating,’ cereal-grain-free, formula; with low levels of starch and sugar, and a considered level of protein to help maintain muscle function but avoid promoting body condition.

Benefits

It is very important that this group of horses and ponies receive their full requirement of vitamins and minerals. TopSpec Lite allows them to receive all the micronutrients required to balance the diet of horses in light to medium work in a small amount of exceptionally low-calorie feed.

TopSpec Lite will help maintain excellent health whilst greatly improving hoof quality and promoting a supple skin and an exceptionally shiny coat. It is so palatable that it can be fed on its own, or with a little TopChop Lite.

Long-term trials have shown that horses and ponies on restricted/poor grazing do not gain any additional weight when fed TopSpec Lite. It can also be used very successfully as part of a calorie-controlled diet when weight loss is required.

TopSpec Lite is suitable for horses and ponies prone to laminitis.

Been feeding top spec lite for years. Horses like it. Look well on it and I’m happy to know their nutritional needs are being met. The only issue I had was with delivery, as it took 7 days to receive item, upon opening the box it was packaged in both ends of the bag were open and the box was not left in the safe place I specified when I placed the order (and not at home to take delivery). This meant the box got wet as it happened on the only day we had rain.

We have used this for a while now and I have just discovered that Viovet stocks it which is great since I can buy along with the smaller items for our dogs.

EMS suitability

Blackcob

Hi I have a 12 year old section D gelding. He has recently developed his first case of laminitis and our vet has advised that he has EMS. I am keeping him on a deep shavings bed, feeding small nets of soaked hay and straw, and he is having a double handful of Dengie Hi-Fi lite with his prescribed dosage of bute and Sedalin gel. I am aware that this restricted diet is leaving him short of essential vitamins and minerals so am looking for something to compensate for this. He is not overweight-in fact I can now see his ribs, although he was a little on the "cuddly" side when he came down with laminitis 2 weeks ago.
Would you be able to recommend a suitable life long supplement? I am determined to get this pony right, he is beautiful, but most importantly is a real member of the family. He competes at showing and dressage (or will again once back in work) so does not have a particularly heavy work regime. I am aware that the best treatment for EMS is diet and exercise. Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this should be a perfectly suitable addition to the diet. If you can get the laminitis to settle, then the way forward is as you say more regular exercise, along with the right diet.

How long would one 15 Kg bag last for a 600Kg horse please? Also would salt need to be supplemented if I fed just this?

  • VioVet Staff

The recommended daily allowance is 100g per 100kg of bodyweight. Therefore, for a 600kg horse, 600g per day is required. If feeding 600g per day, a 15kg bag would last for approximately 25 days. No other supplements should be fed alongside this supplement. However, adding salt is recommended.
