I bought this product because the Helix feeders, which I purchased previously, were out of stock. Those are well designed, well constructed and totally squirrel proof. The Roundhaus feeder has the advantage of having a hopper so more seed or sunflower hearts can be accommodated so less filling is required. Are they squirrel proof? Certainly not! Initially they 'foxed' the squirrels but I was in for a shock. One feeder was emptying very quickly and then I saw a squirrel head down on the underside of the feeder. Would you believe it? The plastic base of the feeder is entirely unprotected by metal and the squirrels simply gnawed a hole in it to let out the seed. I secured the base with metal lath to prevent access. Not to be outdone, the squirrels then simply opened the feeder catch. This gave them a bit of a shock as the contents spill out as the feeder opens with a jolt. Solution? A long hasp padlock! I think I've beaten them now but the point is that the basic design errors mean that the Roundhaus feeder should not be marketed as 'squirrel-proof'.
