Synoquin EFA, one of the leading joint care supplements aids stiff joints and supports mobility. Synoquin EFA contains Dexahan, a unique source of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). Omega 3 EFAs are an excellent supplement to add to your pet’s diet as they have lots of health benefits and are often used to aid in the management of joints. Dexahan is a concentrated source of krill, a tiny crustacean with an especially big nutritional benefit! The EFAs in krill oil are more easily digested and utilised by the body than those from other sources. They come from an environmentally friendly source, are packed with antioxidants and don’t cause your pet to get fishy breath.

For horses there is the palatable powder Synequin Equine.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Synoquin Joint Supplement, including answers from our team.

Ingredients

Sarah Crombie

Can you give me details about what is in this product. I was advise by vet to order it but violet have suggested a swap to joint force, are they identical?

  • VioVet Staff

The ingredients for both products are as follows:

Synoquin EFA:
Glucosamine hydrochloride, N-acetyl D glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate, Dexahan, Ascorbic Acid, Zinc.

Joint Force:
Glucosamine HCL 250mg, Green Lipped Mussel 150mg, MSM 100mg, Boswellia Serrata 40mg, Turmeric 25mg, Ascorbic acid 12.5mg (Vitamin C), Manganese 2mg, Hyaluronic acid 2mg, Vitamin E 0.5mg

As you can see the ingredients are very similar. Our own brand contains a few additional beneficial products but the core ones are the same. You should run any changes past your vet just in case, but essentially Joint Force is a more affordable but still just as high quality joint supplement compared to Synoquin EFA.

Can you use this with previcox

Tony

can you use this along side previcox and can you also add extra krill oil or fish oil
thk you

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this joint supplement can be used alongisde Previcox. It contains ingredients sourced from shellfish so you should not need to supplement additionally in this area. You can use omega oils alongside this though as these are not included, EpiGlow would be a good choice for this. These help support the skijn but also the joints.

Is it ok for Kidney disease dog

Faith Wong

  • VioVet customer since 2018
  • From: Kowloon, Hong Kong

HI, my dog is a 11 year old large dog. We do SDMA test for kidney is 14. I am wondering if she can take this supplement.

  • VioVet Staff

If you use the capsuled version then this is unflavoured (can be opened and sprinkled onto the food) which should be safe for a patient with kidney disease. It does depend on the severity of the kidney issue though so I advise running this past your vet, any additions to the diet with pets who have severe kidney problems can be an issue.

Pancreatitis

Susanne Burley

  • VioVet customer since 2021

Can this supplement be taken alongside a dog with pancreatitis?

  • VioVet Staff

The Synoquin EFA capsules are unflavoured joint supplements and si the safest joint supplements to try in a dog with pancreatitis. However all joint supplements are shellfish based and severe cases of pancreatitis can react to this. It is worth discussing their use with your vet first.

Synoquin for cats

Cynthia

  • VioVet customer since 2018
  • From: , Hungary

Looking for a glucosamine product for my 11 yr old cat just diagnosed with cauda equina. Vet suggested Synoquin but fuzzy on the details re: dosing, etc. and which is appropriate for cats, also whether it comes in tablet or capsule form. Would prefer a capsule. Can you advise? Thanks!

  • VioVet Staff

You will need the Synoquin Cat EFA Capsules (at the top of the drop down menu). They come in capsules which can be given whole or opened and mixed with food. Feeding guidelines:

Initial programme (6 weeks):
2 capsules daily in the morning and in the evening

Maintenance programme (long term):
All cats respond differently to supplementation. However, in general, after the initial loading programme the daily intake can usually be reduced to 1 capsule per day.

Can I crush the tablets?

Kim

Hi

My dog is very clever and even stuffing a tablet in a juicy sausage she will refuse it and somehow eat the sausage and spit the tablet out. Can you crush the tablets or open the capsule and sprinkle in food?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes you can do either of these things. It would be easiest to use the capsules so all you have to do is sprinkle them on the food and so avoids wastage as with crushing tablets.

Could i feed 'puppy growth tablet' for my dog?

Jenny Lee

Hi.
I send this email because i have some questions about feeding guideline.

1. My puppy is 5months old, so what is better for my puppy? Small breed tablets or puppy growth?

2. If 'puppy growth' is better for my dog now, When should i change 'puppy growth' to 'small breed tablets'? Maybe 1 year old?

3. If i change the medicine, should i feed 2 tablets for everyday during 6-8weeks?

I'm wating your reply.
Thank you for your kindness.

  • VioVet Staff

The puppy growth tablets would be ideal until your puppy is 12-18 months old when you can switch to the small breed tablets. The recommended feeding guideline for the puppy growth tablets is one tablet twice per day.

Feeding guidelines

Chloe Park

  • VioVet customer since 2017
  • From: Seoul, Korea, Republic of

I ordered this product yesterday and would like to know about the Feeding guidelines.
People said they need to feed this supplement to their dog twice a day. (They said one for morning and one for evening.)

My dog weights about 12-13kg, and I purchased Medium Breed Tablets Pack of 120. How many and how often should I feed him per a day?

  • VioVet Staff

Medium Breed Tablets (Dogs between 10 - 25kg)

  • Initial Loading rate for six weeks: 3 tablets daily (2 morning, 1 evening)
  • Maintenance rate for long term use: one tablet daily

All dogs respond differently to supplementation. If the reduction causes your dog`s condition to regress, intake can safely be increased until an optimum level is reached.

Puppy Growth or Small Breed?

amy pixie

My pixie is 11 months old with weight 3.2kg which one should i order for puppy growth or small breed?

  • VioVet Staff

Generally, very small breeds of dogs have finished growing, and are regarded as adults from about 10 months of age. I recommend putting your dog onto the Small Breed tablets/capsules.
