Description

Give your dog long-lasting protection against fleas and ticks with a Seresto flea and tick control collar for large dogs. Unlike other flea and tick protection, Seresto flea and tick collars are clinically proven to kill fleas and repel and kill ticks for 7-8 continuous months. It's the longest lasting protection available in a single application, so there's no need to remember monthly treatments. Seresto has repellent action meaning ticks do not have to bite to be killed. INSTRUCTIONS

Cutaneous use. One collar per animal to be fastened around the neck.

Remove collar from protective bag directly before use. Unroll collar and make sure that there are no remnants from the plastic connectors inside the collar. Adjust the collar around the animal's neck without tightening it too tight (as a guide, it should be possible to insert 2 fingers between the collar and the neck). Pull excess collar through the loop and cut off any excess length extending beyond 2 cm.

The collar should be worn continuously for the 7–8-month protection period and should be removed after the treatment period. Check periodically and adjust fit, if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing.

Pregnant bitch around other dogs in house with Seresto Collars

Karen

Hi, I have a multi-dog household, is it safe for my pregnant bitch to be lying with her housemates, Iā€™ve taken her own collar off.
Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet states the following:
Laboratory studies with either flumethrin or imidacloprid in rats and rabbits have not produced any effects on fertility or reproduction and showed no teratogenic or foetotoxic effects. However, the safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established in target animals during pregnancy and lactation and in the absence of available data, the product is therefore not recommended in pregnant and lactating bitches or queens.

This means it should not be used in pregnancy or lactation, so you are right to remove your pregnant bitch's collar. The collar will transfer ingredients by prolonged direct contact with the skin. If your dog will spend a few hours or more consistently in contact with a collar then the ingredients may transfer over. It is hard to say for definite whether your dog's sleeping next to each other will be an issue, it may be safest to separate them at night just to be safe.
If your pregnant bitch will not be in skin contact with a collar when lying with her housemates then this should not be an issue. The ingredients cannot transfer from the skin of a dog with a collar on it, it must be from skin contact with the collar itself.

Heart worm/leishmania

Rosalind

My dog comes with us to Portugal so does Seresto protect against heart worm and Leishmania

  • VioVet Staff

This product is licensed to protect against fleas and ticks. Leishmania is a tick-borne disease and so it will provide some protection against this by killing ticks. Heartworm is transferred by mosquito bites which Seresto does not specifically protect against. It is recommended to use a Scalibor Collar instead if you are wanting to protect against these two diseases specifically.
If you wish to treat for heartworm then you will need to contact your vet for advice on heartworm products.

Serestco Flea Collar over 8kg

Bethan King

Will the over 8kg be ok to us on my Rottweiler?

Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

This depends on the weight of your Rottweiler, if over 8kg and 7 weeks of age then this collar is a great choice.

Seresto flea collar

Jennifer Pettman

How can I be sure your Seresto flea collars are genuine ones as there are a lot of fake ones being sold. Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

We stock all of our medications from licensed wholesalers, the same as your vet would receive supply from. We are one of the Veterinary Medicine Directorate Accredited Retails which means we undergo additional measures to ensure a high quality service is provided. You are right to be cautious as counterfit Seresto Collars have been in circulation but I can reassure you the ones we provide are genuine and made by Elanco themselves.
If you ever receive medication from a source you are unsure of then you can ring Elanco (the manufacturer) with the batch numbers/expiry date of the product. They can then verify whether the product was made by them or not.

Large Seresto tick collar , how long is the sell by date if I buy now.

Margaret

We usually put a large Seresto collar on our Labrador in February how long does the treatment last, she has it on all the time.

  • VioVet Staff

Seresto collars reaming active, releasing the medication to your dog's skin for up to 7 to 8 months. It is recommended a new collar is applied after the 7 to 8 month mark.

Seresto + advocate

Jill Greenwood

  • VioVet customer since 2015
  • From: West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

I use advocate on my two dogs as they are not reliable tablet takers. Can I use the Seresto collar plus their 3 monthly Advocate, or is that too much in their system. If not is their another spot on for worms i can use in combination with the collar instead either on or off prescription?

  • VioVet Staff

You will be giving a double dose of imidacloprid if you use Seresto alongside Advocate. However overdoses of 5 to 8 times the recommended amount of imidacoprid were tolerated well in dogs in a clinical trial, with no adverse side effects. Seresto also delivers only what your dog needs, therefore it will stop dosing with imidacloprid if you have applied the Advocate, until the Advocate wears off (after 1 month).

Taking the above into account it is likely very safe to use Advocate alongside Seresto. It is worth noting you are not covering tapeworms with this treatment plan though. Unfortunately only tabletable wormers will do this. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like advice on this.

Puppies

W Brooks

Is this suitable for an 8 week old puppy?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this product is suitable for puppies over 7 weeks old.
Seresto Collars last up to 7 to 8 months so I would advise picking a collar size (<8kg or >8kg) based on the weight your dog will grow to be within this time period. If you think your puppy will by heavier than 8kg within 7 months then I would choose the larger collar size.

The collar will need to be adjusted as your puppy grows but this can be done easily. The product itself will only dose your dog with the right amount that they need depending on their current size, so you do not need to worry that a larger collar will give too large a dose.
