My dog has been eating this food for two and half years, since he was diagnosed with IBD and it keeps his tummy settled and free from the chronic wind that he used to get! He gets a bit bored with only dry food but he is now able to have wet food for alternate meals and treats without any adverse effects.

Specific cdd-hy is very good quality specialist dog food. My dog has had sensitive skin from the outset and we’re not sure which food or things he may be allergic to. However, on this food his ailments are much reduced to a level we can manage. We also bath him once a week with diluted hibiscrub and together that does the trick. Vivovet provides a very good service, quick delivery and good pricing

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding SPECIFIC (Dechra) CDD-HY ™ Food Allergen Management Salmon Protein Dry Dog Food, including answers from our team.
Sheila Clarke
My dog became poorly with acid reflux and diarrhoea in April and our vet suspects it was an allergy or food intolerance. I still don't know the exact cause but this food seems to suit her. Would it be appropriate to keep her on this food permanently or should I be trying to get her on to food that does not have hydrolysed protein? I have contacted Dechra twice about this but they do not reply.
This food is a complete diet and is suitable for lifelong use as the only food if it is working well for your pet. You should discuss with your vet though about a long term treatment plan if you have not already. It is not unusual though for animals with allergies to be on a food like this in the long term.

Is Specific CDD-HY suitable for dogs with IBD?
This depends on what sets off your dogs IBD, you should discuss this with your vet. It contains hydrolysed salmon protein and rice so should be unlikely to set off any food intolerance/allergies in your dog unless your dog reacts to rice. IBD can be caused by allergies/intolerances so it can be beneficial for the condition but only alongside vet advice as it greatly depends on the individual dog.

My 2 yr old Rough collie is now on this food CDD-HY Food Allergy Managment after many bouts of diaorreah. Her stools are much better however she now drinks a lot more and is needing to pee more frequently at night. Even to the point of doing it indoors if she can't wait. Help!
There is nothing about this diet, or her past history, which explains the increased thirst and urine production. I suppose it is possible that it is down to the diet, but you would only find out by using a different type of hydrolysed food intended for allergies (Purina HA, Hills z/d etc). Personally I think the diet she is on is a good one, but you might end up trying an alternative. My initial thought is that there could certainly be another reason for the symptoms you have observed and your vet should look into that. A routine blood test might be indicated just to check for an underlying condition which could now be developing. (The previous diarrhoea may or may not have been caused by allergies, though they are indeed very common.) I would suggest letting your vet take a fresh look at the overall picture. It is unusual for a dog of 2 years of age to drink so much that she cannot hold her urine overnight.

I have been given CDD-HY for my staffy pup she will be 6 months old on sunday is this food ok for her thanks
This is an expensive, speciality food which should be OK for her, but is not likely to be better than many other more standard diets, or a variety of them in fact. There is unlikely to be a problem with feeding it though.
